911 gearbox mount

Hello all

I am currently taking the engine out of the 912 to check out a few noises, while I'm there I was thinking of changing the gearbox mount to a 911 type. I have heard these are better, just after some advice on which one (year etc) will fit and where to find one + how much to pay.

If anyone has any info I would be grateful.

Gav and I have both done this... and strongly recommend it (I speak on Gav's behalf). Also AP goes on about it! Basically its a lot stronger and more supportive - you can feel the difference - essp. If your blocks are worn out!

I paid 40 notes and I think its interchangeable from early/pre 70's 911

Yup I would say go for it... if, and it's a big if...

you can find one...

You also need to get new bolts and cup washers, available from Porsche. I have the spec and part numbers somewhere if you need them

wy did porsche give them different mounts in the first place if it was known that the 911 one was stronger?

does not seem logical or porsche-like to use an inferior part for no good reason. Just curious.

Not sure it's inferior, in my experience it was more 'bouncy' if that makes sense, the 911 mount makes for a harsher yet more 'responsive' feeling maybe due to the lesser weight from the engine/gearbox combo, I am sure that was something that was taken into account. Can't imagine they would have made a different mount just for the sake of it, as the 912 one isn't exactly simple. It would seem wise to balance the mount to the characteristics of each cars box/engine, but I'm just guessing...

Certainly worth while though... if you can find one... how do you find yours Chicky?

But I do believe I got a bargain because both the circular mounts were new!

But the two bolts and washers, from Porsche, came to £30!

Ok I am going to investigate, I will let you know how I get on.

Engine and gearbox are on the floor now so this is a good time to change the rear shocks and rear suspension bushes £££[;)]
