The thread on increasing capacity of GT4 engines reminded me of this 2014 article in Panorama describing Sharkwerks 4.1L Mezger GT3 engine. The Porsche Club of America article below describes the various components and design constraints with an interesting comment on cylinder wall thickness.

Interesting write up Ralph.
I guess bore ultimately has a limit when the walls become too thin and the option then is to increase the stroke and look at higher torque engines with a (still heady) top end.
you have only had yours a little while - I hope you’re not thinking about tinkering already lol

No tinkering on this one.

I expect in a couple of years I’ll wonder how much power a 2.5 turbo can make.
