36mm Brembo Caliper Piston

Chaps,

In my quest to eradicate the slight shimmy under braking in my S2 I dismantled one of the front calipers today. I thought that one of the pistons was a bit sticky when I fitted the new disks and pads a couple of weeks ago "" and I was right; one of the pistons was a bit sticky. What I was wrong about was how sticky it was; it didn't want to move out of the caliper at all. Not even with 120psi from the compressor behind it. A bit of a twist with a large pair of pliers got it going tho', and it then popped out with a very satisfying bang, but I think it's past it. It is noticably corroded along it's sides and while it cleaned up well enough with a sharp blade and some very fine wet and dry I think it needs replacing.

So, where to buy a 36mm Brembo caliper piston? Does anyone have a scrap caliper that is otherwise U/S but which may offer up a usable 36mm piston? Or have any suggestions as to where to buy them? I've found this on eBay:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Brembo-Caliper-Piston-36mm-/111015779015?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item19d90e5ac7

"¦ but it's clearly made with a large ridge at the end of it and hence is the wrong part.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

That piston (your Ebay link) is listed as a 911 part. Most likely it is from 964 or 993. Diameter might be a same, but 911 piston is a bit shorter.

I had same issue with mine a while ago and I got parts from OPC , fitted new bleed nipples as well as complete rebuild with new pots, seals and dust scrapers. What a difference it made.

Chaps,

Thanks for the suggestions. As it was, I ended up buying from my local OPC. £40.25p, which is pretty outrageous for such a small part, but it's solved the problem.

Now installed. Will test later on today.
