3.0 16v engine into 8V car

Hi All,

I want to put a 3.0 16v engine into an 8v car. To do this I will need to use the crank trigger arrangement from the 8v engine. Am I right in thinking I can use the flywheel, bellhousing and crank sensors from the 8v engine on the 3.0 block? Does the 3.0 16V have a different clutch to the 2.5 8v models and if so would it fit on the flywheel from the 8v? The flywheel teeth are also important for the 8v triggering arrangment so would this be in the same place?

Cheers

Tom

For what it's worth a breaker told me clutch discs were the same, even if part numbers differ, but I have not checked myself and I doubt they are swappable... Sorry, I know this doesn't float your boat any further...

Looks like the clutches are all interchangeable: http://www.lindseyracing.com/LR/Porsche/CLUTCHSPEC944/SP-311.html

Yes all the 8v stuff will swap over to the 3.0 block.

Tom, interesting idea. I suppose you plan to use your modified Motronic as well? On the other hand, your system with 60-2 triggering would be nice. Could be easily install then to some other marques as well, like older BMWs.

It would make more sense, but the later motronic in the 16 valve cars is totally different and I guess would need a different board design.
