1999 Carrera 4 - which MAF?

I am having difficulty obtaining a replacement MAF. There is a misfire identified by fault code as the MAF.
I obtained one online, supposedly for my 1999 vehicle, but the connector doesn’t fit the connector on the loom. The replacement is square at one end whereas the original is completely oval. The supplier tells me that these MAFs with oval connectors are for 2002 onward 996s and not applicable to my vehicle.
The faulty MAF is a non-original item (fitted by me 8 years ago) and doesn’t have a Porsche part number to use to identify it for a replacement. When I replaced the MAF I most certainly did not change the loom connector so I am puzzled regarding advice given.
The situation is compounded as I am currently stuck outside the UK with no near main dealer access and would be grateful if anyone can advise an appropriate current part number.

There are 3 flavours of MAF sensor:
996.606.123.00 - For 3.4L cars with mechanical throttle
996.606.124.00 - For 3.4L cars with electronic throttle
996.606.125.01 or .02 - For 3.6L cars

The 3.4L 1999 C4 has electronic throttle, so you need 996.606.124.00 (the most expensive of the three).
 
I recently brought a replacement MAF using the Bosch part number on it, for my 3.4. It works very well and was a fair bit cheaper than using the OEM 996 part number and available from local suppliers rather than the usual routes. Ian
 
To contradict that, sorry but I'd use nothing other than OEM.
Non OEM will look identical, look like they've purposely removed the part number to make you think it's an out the back door of the factory job.
But it will NOT perform the same.
 
Id still be very cautious as unless bought from a very reputable company you could still end up with a fake.
The fakes are marked Bosch and look identical.
