1985 944 sunroof

I have just taken delivery of my 1985 944, for the first time i have come across an unsual sunroof, its not the normal elctric pop out sunroof, its a vinyl type roof, can anyone explain how it works please and is it possible to replace it with a solid roof? it has a chrome handle inside which i believe turns and retracts the roof, similar to what you would see on a citroen 2cv.

I have tried to turn the handle but it just does not move, rust on part of the handle.

Any help or advice will be appreciated

Hi, and welcome to the forum. [:)]

I've moved this to the 944 area for you. I think a picture might be needed as this doesn't sound like a normal 944 sunroof to me.

A photo indeed would help. It sounds quite a bit like a Webasto roof from your description! If so, you simply push the roof back with it folding itself.

But a photo would confirm what you have for definite.

Very intersting that kind of sun roof. It sounds similar to a Golde sunshine roof I had on one of my old beetles. Due to the assocation with VAG via the 924 it may be that the fabric roof is a Golde sunshine roof, they are brilliant and leak free. I think you had to pull the handle down before you could turn it to unlock it, but then again it might be a Wesbatso, or however it is spelled, and be completely different

Hi

Thank you all for replying.

It is indeed a Tudor Webasto roof, as i explained earlier, i have just purchased the vehicle and tried to open roof.

It seems like its stuck as it does not have any movement once retracted to the vertical position (rust).

I shall take it into my garage and get a few heads around it 2mrw.

Thanks again, i will keep you all up to date

Mohammed
