1982 Porsche 944

I have a 1982 Porsche 944 which intermitently dies on me! All the dials go to '0' and I glide to a halt. This has happened about 5 times! It is in almost Concours condition, having only done 51k and having been cocooned for 17 years of its 29.
Initially thought to be an original sensor at the back of the engine, which was replaced,
Then thought to be the HT lead which has been replaced. Haven't had any trouble for nearly two weeks, but mechanic didn't really think this was the problem, so waiting for it to 'die' on me again.
Can anyone offer advice please, either what to look out for, or what should be replaced?
Thanks, Polly

I'm, no expert on auto-electricals, but it sounds like a loose connection on the battery or something like that. Have you checked battery terminals and common grounds (earth straps) for frayed wires or corroded contacts? If it was my car I'd be checking the key switch for the same thing too. Does the car have an aftermarket imobiliser?

Edited for clarity...

My one guess as ignition switch has been taken and as its an early car is fuse. Remove inspect and test each.
They het delicate with age.
