1966 912 Tyres

Hi all,

I am a new member, so apologies if I am posting in the wrong area / format etc. I bought a LHD US import 1966 912 last year and the tyres look a bit past their best. Think I have the standard 165R15 wheels and was hoping someone could recommend a suitable tyre and where to buy them. I do not intend showing the car, so would just like something safe and not too expensive. Thank you for your help and look forward to seeing some of you over the summer.

Cheers

Rob

Vredestein Sprint Classics - many early 911/912 (& 356)owners fit them. There's usually someone offering a good on-line deal on them,

I have two sets on my '66 912. For normal summer use, I have a set of 185/70 x 15 Colway Rally Plus - but I have a feeling that these are no longer easily available (although they are still nominated as agreed tyres by the MSA for Endurance rallying, so someone must be selling them.) For winter use I have a set of 165/70 x 15 Vredenstein winter tyres. I also have a set of 175/65 Continentals from a 912 which I bought on the rims (I wanted the rims, not the tyres!), so these must be suitable. I'm about to fit them on my cousin's Fiat, so they are not available - sorry! I tend to buy my tyres now on the net as there are a number of good deals going, and then get my local Dexels to fit and balance for me. I hope that helps. Rowena Purdy 912 Register Secretary

Thanks Andy, for such a quick and helpful reply - they look ideal and much cheaper than what a garage had quoted me! Cheers Rob

Thanks Rowena, that is really useful info. These tyres are much better value than others garages have been quoting me! Cheers Rob

I believe that Porsche fitted the 165HR15 Cinturato that has just been remade by Pirelli [link=https://www.borrani.com/en/pirelli-tyres/cinturato-ca67/165hr15-pirelli-cinturato.html]165HR15 Pirelli Cinturato[/link]
