In a word: fabulous!
- An unscheduled oil and filter change at 7,000 miles. I didn't really need this but decided to get it done anyway. I won't bother with another one until the scheduled 2-year or 20,000 mile service is due.
- No major problems to report. I had to top up the coolant a few weeks ago as it has been below the minimum level from day one - even after an OPC had a look at it to see if there was a leak well over a year ago.
- No rattles or squeaks unless the car is cold and I go over some very poor local roads that are littered with potholes. Rear hatch is behaving itself, but I did twist the screw stoppers almost all the way out to ensure that the lid closed tightly.
- After starting the car I don't drive off straight away. Instead, I wait for around one minute after which time the revs drop slightly and the car drives much more smoothly. I've noticed that if you drive off immediately after starting the car from cold then the ride is a bit lumpy at slow speeds (first gear).
- Exterior: a few tiny stone chips on the windscreen. An arc scratch caused when the wiper had a bit of grit on it! This is very annoying as it's in my line of sight but not always noticeable. A couple of minor chips on the roof. The wheels are in very good condition overall but have one or two blemishes now (some brake dust that won't come off and a stone chip that has chipped the lacquer away). Other than that the paintwork and exterior has stood up well to the neglect dished out to my Cayman S (it's not garaged, is driven as often as is humanly possible and the exterior is only occasionally washed although the interior is cleaned weekly). The exhaust tip is now a light-brown colour (caused by heat rather than rust). I can't be bothered to polish it any more.
- Tyres: fronts are fine with loads of tread. Rears are getting a bit low. I will probably need to get new rears by about 15,000 miles.
- Interior: In almost perfect condition. No marks or scratches. The sports seats have been cleaned a few times with a leather cleaner/conditioner. The rest of the interior is just wiped with a damp microfibre cloth. The leather on the drivers seat squab is slightly wrinkled from getting in and out of the car.
- Engine: this is loosening up very nicely indeed. Sometimes when I start the car when the engine is hot and the windows are wound down, it sounds a bit like a VW Beetle (the old one)! It revs very freely now - I definitely noticed it loosening up after 10,000 miles. I expect it to fully loosen up by about 18,000 to 20,000 miles. The character of the engine noise inside the cabin has changed markedly from new.
