100/200 cells Sport catalysts - good or not?

Anyone here having done the switch to Sports catalysts??
Have you seen a difference or is the gain so little that its not worth doing / nd is it cleaning well enough?

Cheers
Niels

Have done it several times. Huge difference. Over 20 years old original cats are always worn out or more or less blocked.

Most people just remove them, not required in the UK for MOT so why go to expense of a replacement.

By raping it of precious metals to make the cat or by chucking more CO2 into the atmosphere once you have fitted it? (ok less co and other nasties)

I read that removing the cat can make the car sound odd, does anyone do a decat pipe for the S2 ?.

I decatted an Audi 100 (5 cyl) in the nineties (1990 car) and it went from meek and mild to sounding fairly quattro-esque, gained a good dose of power according to my arse dyno.

Of course it sounds odd if there is not any resonator left. If car did not had a cat from the factory, it was equipped with resonator style silencer.

Most of us just replaced the cat with a straight through stainless pipe for less than £100 fitted. Yes it makes it louder but not uncomfortably so, especially if you have a standard rear box. I personally cannot detect any extra power decatting an S2

It's much more noticeable in a Turbo [8D]

Rules in Denmark are that the car needs to clear original emssions with in a fixed percentage (don't quite remember by how much).
It is however not always measured although it should be.....

I am more the feeling that I happily sacrifice 5-10 BHP for the sake of a good feeling and not risking to be detected.

@ Olli: What cat have you bought and where? I need a 3" metallic cat and have found some universal fit by some Swedish companies.

Cheers

Niels,

i have had good experience with Swedish made Ferrita cats. Should be available in Denmark. I suppose you can get one easily from Sweden as well.
