03 Model Year Spec

I have recently bought a March 03 Targa which I am delighted with , but also puzzled.

My car has no PSM which is fine but does that mean it has no form of traction control? I am guessing this may be the case although I am surprised that any car with this much grunt would be sold without any form of traction control.

My brother has a very nice 1998 C2 which has a traction on/off button which my car has not, I am only asking this due to curiosity as the car has not felt lacking in anyway.

Just bought a December 2001 Targa and it has PSM. I test drove several Targas before the purchase and everyone of them had PSM. I thought it was a standard feature with the 3.6L.

Fairly sure (from my days of looking at 996s) that 996 and 993 were the same in that C4s all come with some type of traction control as standard but on C2s it's an optional extra. Early 996 it was "traction control", facelift 996 the same option box was called "PSM" - and is obviously a lot more sophisticated.

I had a 2003 MY Carrera which didn't have PSM - was quite a handful on wet roads. PSM is an incredible piece of kit, I tested it a few times in my Cayman S to see how good it was and was very impressed, the way it can correct oversteer mid corner is amazing. The only problem with it is it makes you feel somewhat disconnected from the car, it's quite strange feeling the car take the power away from your right foot.

ORIGINAL: Michael996 Looks to me like I better improve my wet weather driving[:D]
Good reaction Michael! - These folk with electronic aids are missing all the fun. No point in having a 911 and then not really driving it. (Ducks and awaits response from the PSM owners - it's raining outside, better be careful on the drive home). PS The TC on a 993C4 is only useful in a straight line. Too much power on a bend and you lose it ... Be interesting to hear what your brother thinks of his TC on the 996.

Hi Mark Thanks for that, I have to admit I had a 997 C2S for about a year and one of the things I found to dislike was the feeling that I was never quite the one ultimately in control of the car? Maybe PSM is really Porsche Sissy Manager!!!!!!!!!!!! (Already Ducking[:D][:D][:D])
