Woah are you normally a gambling man Taffy? How did you do in the Grand National today? [;)] Thanks for sharing the pics and please keep us updated with your progress. I admire your bravery [:)]

Always good to see one being saved, I would check out the sills (outer and inner) and rear suspension mounts before anything else though, if you have serious rot it can be very expensive to repair unless you have the necessary skills to DIY, check out a thread on this forum called "crystal green project" it has good photos of how bad things can get, heres one I just copied, other than that why not, it may not make financial sense (i.e you can buy a decent runner for £1500) but as a hobby/restore there are hours of enjoyment ahead, well months really [:)]

well i have spent the afternoon unseizing the starter motor and rigging up a temp earth lead and wow it started 2nd attempt engine sounds sweet although theres a whine from somewhere around the water pump area sounds like a dry or knackerd bearing somewhere in that area , coughed and spluttered a bit probably due to 3yr old petrol in the tank but it did run so its a start [;)]

OP: you can buy newer seats, in fact theyre the only ones Id consider, but you will have to buy old style (1981-1985) door cards, as the series two types wont fit properly. You can also fit the better carpets from a series two car too. That wont cost a great deal and itll make a MASSIVE difference. Youll have to be careful with wheels too, as most wheels advertised will only suit 1987 onwards cars. Probably the best/easiest wheels to fit will be series two telephone dials from a 1986 car, as theyll suit your offset. These are the ones where you can see a good inch of rim and they have an offset of 23mm, not the 52.3mm of the later cars. Thesell fit perfectly and they look smarter than the later fitment.

This is great, can't wait to see it coming back to life! Good luck Taffy! P.S. now you've heard it running I recommend you don't start it again until you change the timing belt/ check rollers etc.

Doesnt look that bad, will part out for more. I think I drunkenly bought an Audi 200 the other night, hmm.

Or what about Fuchs wheels?. ps this isn't mine but I have the wheels and is getting closer to a new coat of red paint...any month now!

Great project! Cookie cutters would probably be the cheapest wheels (and in 2nd only to the mega expensive Fuchs) Good luck and keep the pics coming.

Fair play to ya Taffy, nice project. Absolute bargain IMO, you'd part out for more as mentioned. Good luck with getting it rolling, keep us updated

"Cookie cutters would probably be the cheapest wheels (and in 2nd only to the mega expensive Fuchs) " I was lucky, i bought my Fuchs 2nd hand about 10 years ago £200 for the set, I guess it's the campervan boys that have sent the price through the roof since then?.

Looks like a decent project car. I keep wondering all that rust on 944's in UK. Looks like similar like my son's project car when he got it.

not really thought about selling the plate but maybe in the future a tinterweb search says its valued at between £500 and £1000 so might think about it in the future to finance some bits if needed and yes its been altered 4 numbers after the FIL **** BUT I'VE CALLED THE CAR PHIL ANYWAY.....lol anyway got underneath the car today and had a good poke and prod around with a large screwdriver and was very surprised....NO WELDING NEEDED...hes solid as a rock everywhere found some reciepts in the glove box from 2005 when it was last mot'd £500 spent on disks and calipers/pads and its done 1200 miles since and a reciept for £199 for the jvc cd player and it works too bonus...so far £140 well spent me thinks
