Macan Insurance Madness

Is anyone else discovering their Macan is verging on uninsurable??

5 years ago I P/X'd the Macan S I had for a manual 991.1 GTS. Of the many fantastic things I enjoyed about that car over four years of ownership, was the fact it was far cheaper to service and insure than the Macan. A year ago I decided to sell the 991 and get back into another Macan S. I had resigned myself to inferior fuel economy and an insurance hike!

One year on and the time had come to re-insure. I'm 57, Company Director, 22yrs NCB, and live in SE London near Kent. While last years £1,000 odd for fully comp was unwelcome, I was expecting something similar. In the end I managed to get insured for a fraction under £1K. but I consider myself lucky. My existing insurer quoted me £3.5K! Several other companies declined to quote! Although I did not expect a bargain basement quote, I called Lockton. Even they declined to quote! Their response was that the underwriters wanted to distance themselves from SUV's generally and particularly those in towns.

Ironically, a client of mine had bought a new electric Macan Turbo around the same time I got my latest Macan. They mentioned at the time that after buying the car, they then had a very hard time trying to insure it. Insurers either declined or quoted FIVE figure sums.

This is crazy. Sooner or later the cars resale will be negatively impacted by these insurance changes. I for one will be looking to move mine on before next renewal.

Sorry to hear this. My insurance has gone up over the past few years. I use the official Porsche Insurance as personally I find their customer service better than Lockton's. Did you try Porsche?

No. The only two times I tried Porsche direct was for the original Macan and the 991. Both times they were hilarioulsy expensive. As my insurance became due, all the various providers started flooding my inbox with renewal quotes. Many were for the 991. If I had still had it, that car would have been double the value of the Macan but quotes were coming in at around £600 compared to £1200~£3500 and up for the Macan. I can only assume that the car is a magnet for thieves.
