Steering lock/ignition switch.

I was having an issue with the steering lock, where it didn't lock the steering. After dismantling and cleaning it, the locking pin seems to be working again. However the ignition key isn't returning to the accessory position, when it is released from the starter position. So is the return spring built into the steering lock assembly, or the multi pin electrical connector that plugs into the back of it? st lock.jpg

My steering lock either works or it doesn't. Mostly works and sometimes works if you turn the wheel a bit when it's having on off day. Have never took it apart though, sorry.

You're the 2nd owner of a late 944 that's said something similar, so that makes 3 of us. A new ignition barrel from Porsche was only £50, so I tried that, but the return spring isn't in that. An easy fix would be if the multi pin plug in my pic is spring loaded, but I don't fancy buying a new one, in case it isn't.

Any suggestions for breakers of late cars. Ideally not at multiples the price Porsche charge though. There's a new ignition barrel on ebay for £170, I just bought one from Porsche for under £60.

If that is rare porsche parts, just let him know, he is very helpful, he has so many parts he doesn't have time to check the Porsche price on all of them.

Don't think it was him, it wasn't listed under that name. I'm not sure if the key not automatically returning to position one is an MOT issue?

Gerry @ Rare Porsche Parts is a decent guy and helpful, but some of his prices are ridiculous (possibly for reasons stated). I'm sure he took over Woolies Workshop.

I've sent him a message on couple of occasions where the price is crazy compared to new from Porsche and he has updated them.
