Turbo/S2 Front Fogs and OS Indicator

Hi Guys

So the car is nearly there and back together. Neither front fog is coming on, and the OS front indicator is not coming on. All were working before. Main and dipped beam is working properly.

I suspect the actual unit for the front indicator may need replaced as it was always ropy before. I had given it a good clean up so that may i have killed the unit totally....

The rear fogs are coming on and both switches illuminate as usual in the dash, rear fogs won't operate unless the fronts are on but I'm sure that is normal and the way it was before.

All fuses seem good. Haven't checked the bulbs but with both being out it would seem odd that is was the bulbs.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Stuart

Sounds like someone has forgotten to plug the wiring loom together.... I can't remember but do the indicator loom and fog light loom have the same connector plug, possible they have been mixed up?

Thanks. There are two round bullet plugs on each side for both light units to plug in to. I'm assured they are plugged in and they can't be the wrong way about as different pin configs. There is life in the fog light/full beam/side light units as both the sides and the full beams are working. Left indicator is fine.

My guess is they haven't liked being unplugged for the first time in 35 years possibly and might need a little wiggling or fettling. Which means bumper off again.......

There is a Porsche/VW spark guy coming round to give his verdict.

On a side note, does anyone have a spare right indicator unit, 951 631 412 00? Hens teeth and £180 new........

I'm not 100% sure they are different pin configs, you don't need to remove the entire bumper, just the batwing from the bottom and lift the front of the car up. You should then be able to look up inside the bumper and unplug / plug the connectors in by reaching up behind the bumper. I've removed the light units before with the bumper in-place.

Good to know thanks. I ordered a new indicator unit from OPC Glasgow, £153 inc. vat. Got a decent discount.

Surely the side lights and main beam wouldn't operate correctly if the plugs were wrong way about?

Good point - if your side lights are working then must be connected properly

Yes! I've had a look at a spare fog light unit I have here, there are spade earths, 2 per unit for full beam and fog light. Possibly they haven't been reconnected? I've sent a couple of pictures to the garage for reference for them. Hopefully they can suss it out between them when the tech guy has a look.

It's a pity as it was almost ready to drive home..........it's getting valeted just now and the rear quarter window trim still needs put in. Get the lights sorted and we should be done. However the new indicator unit not arriving till Friday and I think the guy is away somewhere on Friday, so looking like next week now..........
