Went out to start car .it stated first go then died ,battery has loads of life all interiors work .Tried locking car and opening it, gear selector is in P in PDK switch on ignition and can move gear selector from neutral car says put car in P still nothing .Some one said check fuses no idea which one would relate to car turning over ,,help please ps its 981

Greenman correct but when my 981 has low battery it tells me when about to start. When flat I couldn’t open it and had to go through usual rigmarole. So, your car actually started…. This to me suggests not battery but obviously sensible to test further. The fact that it’s requesting to put into P suggests something's is being told wrong info if actually in P. It’s not something that is easy fix unless ran out of fuel instantly after choking? Yes, could be fuse but why? Would be great to ‘OBD’ to further evaluate? Hopefully someone nearer you can have mutual tinker? Please keep updated.

Thanks .had RAC out some faults showing PSM cleared but still no joy .Car is PDK and always is in P when I start it and it says put in P on dash .All dash lights on and showing 13.2 on battery at rest ,the RAC guy put on a booster pack to it as working on it it dropped to 11.7 he did not think it was a battery issue .Have a full print out of his findings ,he said would need recovered to a garage ,some said coil pack as a fault showed up on 2 cylinders but that would show as a lumpy start ,it just wont turn over like it had no starter ,he jacked car up but could see nothing as starter I believe is on the top of engine not below ,any other suggestions welcome .

How about a failed brake pedal switch? I’m a manual transmission chap so don’t know if you have to press the brake pedal to start the car. Having said that I seem to recall that you should get a warning message.🤔

Other than that maybe there’s a bad earth somewhere on the starter motor, or a failure of the starter solenoid or the starter itself?

It’s difficult at arms length to help but the fact that it’s telling you to put into P when already there surely is a position sensor error? I’d try moving gear selector a few more times to see if message changes? If car originally started….a faulty starter motor would not cause it to cut out, so surely that says SM ok?
