Hi collective,

My rear boxes have finally given up the ghost and splitting, so scraped through my MOT, but need replacing imminently. Im looking at options. Not looking for something loud (I know sound is subjectve!) or claimed BHP gains. Want something reliable, not too loud or droning, but maybe on a par with my gundo hack I bought mine with. Stock 996 exhaust I've had on previous cars are a little too quiet.
Hear of some relialbility issues with Dansk, Milltex and OE are too expensive for me, so at the moment, boils down to DesignTek https://www.design911shop.com/porsche/996-c2-3-6l-09-01-2005/silencers---mufflers/ or TopGear https://www.topgear.co.uk/porsche-911-996-carrera-mild-sports-silencers
Any thoughts or experience? Or others I'm not sighted on?
Thanks
Craig

I suspect if you do a search on here or 996 Facebook groups you'll find there are more opinions than there are boxes and there are quite a few boxes to choose from.
I have the top gear quiet boxes . They are indeed quiet but probably not as quiet as stock . They certainly make a different tone to stock which you will either love or hate . Some people report droning others don't . Mine do and on that point alone I find I'm not in love with them .You can drive around the drone it seems to be around the 70 mph mark in mine . On the plus side they pass noise tests at track days well . If I were to replace again I'd probably go with dansk oem type , though they have in the past been known to have issues with the Flexi pipe that they come with.

Many thanks Laurence. Yeah it's the flexi pipes issues I've heard about with the Dansk which has put me off. Thanks for the feedback from your experience on the - food for thought!!

Craig,

I have some 997.2 exhaust boxes and cross over pipes, going cheap, as I fitted a OEM Sports exhaust a few years ago. My car is a 2009 model, with 40K miles on it. I do think the fittings might be a little different ? Happy to provide photos. I am in Winchester.
