OPC Tyre Costs

I learned a valuable lesson today when collecting my GTS 4.0 from the local OPC, after taking it in for some warranty work (for a worn wheel bearing & a dodgy ABS sensor - not great after only 7k miles, but it continues my history of 4 Porsches now all having had problems early on). They also spotted a large nail in one of the rear tyres, so I stupidly agreed to let them change it, thinking that with the Club discount, it wouldn't be too far adrift of commercial costs. However, I forgot to allow for VAT, so I ended up paying £438.05 - compared to just £328.16 for the same NO-rated tyre via Black Circles, and that's before any discount I might have qualified for....! Still, at least I had the car cleaned 'free of charge'.

This just shows how OPC's differ. I recently had two new Pirelli P Zeros N1 rated for the rear (265/35 R20) of my car supplied and fitted by Newcastle OPC for £332 each. They did not charge me for the 111 point health check, fitting private plates and cleaned the car inside and out.

Don't forget to claim your voucher from Pirelli but it is worth shopping around. I've recently paid £660 for 2 rear Pirellis and just got my £60 voucher from them. Didn't go to my OPC though.

The rule that works for me is. Don't have preconceived ideas where you want to buy from. Decide the tyre you want. Put that in Google and see what pops up. Tyre suppliers seem to have different offers on different makes at different times..

I have just had 4x Pirelli P Zero 295/35 R21 107Y fitted to my Cayenne from National Tyre's for £930. I didn't think that was a bad price.

I shopped around all over the web, for different suppliers and tyres and this came up best for premium tyres.

I have always got a price from somewhere like Blackcircles, and asked the OPC to match it, which they do.
mine would never do that it would a loss to them, Mitchlin own Black circles and OPC pay more for the tyres. SO they would loose money price matching to black circles. they might be able to match a P zero but no one wants those shiiters on their car ;-p

OPC Portsmouth recently fitted a P Zero while I was having other work done for only £6 more than Protyre. However neither now offers N2 at reasonable cost.
