April news

This month's news from your GT3 Register

As mentioned in last month’s column, I am working towards a GT3 25th anniversary year event. One of our members has kindly offered space within a motorsport event they are holding in August in the Midlands. I am seriously looking at this as well the Club’s events and waiting for feedback from Porsche GB. It’s a ‘watch this space’ for now. I will let everyone know what options/combination emerges via my monthly report and email to the GT3 distribution list.

EVENTS

Yattendon
As mentioned, our first trial meeting was scheduled for 25 February, at the monthly R19 (Thames Valley) Yettendon meeting. Alas, the copy for this month’s column needed to be in before the event but I will give an update next month. I do hope some members will have made it, despite the wet weather forecast. At least it should be free of snow, ice or salt. As such, I am sure my GT3 will turn up! If the concept works (and I only need a few GT3 members to attend) I will see if we can add this format to other Regional events and have, maybe, three or four such events per selected Region. It would be a useful way for GT3 members to meet-up.

JZM visit
I am also working with JZM for a revised date, as we had to postpone the planned April event due to building works. Some mid-year dates did not work due to other commitments on both sides. I cannot fix a later in the year date until we have the 25th year anniversary date settled, so again ‘watch this space’.

Trackdays
As mentioned before, my next trackday is at the RS Day at Oulton Park on Friday 1 March. By the time you read this the day would have been and gone, with an update next month. After that, it is a double header in Spa with RMA.

Tyres
As always, I keep thinking about tyres – as my car is an older model with 18” wheels, the choice of track tyres keeps reducing. Credit to Michelin, Yokohama, and Pirelli for keeping these sized tyres in stock, albeit sometimes in short supply. That said, the newer compound tyres seem to be reserved for 19”, 20” wheels and above. I know some owners have modified their hubs etc to take 19” wheels but it seems a stretch to me. I doubt Porsche ever certified that wheel size for the 996.

As always, if you have an idea for an event then please let me know, and if you have something newsworthy you want to share, please drop me a line.

Happy GT3ing,

Alex
