992 GT3 RS – an owner’s view
Donald Hossack, previous Region 1 RO and now the proud owner of a 992 GT3 RS, contacted me and I asked him to write a piece of his first months of ownership. He generously reports:

“Car - Ice Grey Metallic with Indigo Blue wheels and decals. It has the Weissach package option that includes carbon roll cage, magnesium wheels and exposed carbon. I owned the previous GT3 RS, the 991.2 model, for four years and what a sensational car it was. The handling, composure and all-round capability made it a great drive on the road as well as the track. I drove many trackdays in the 991 and put 16,000 miles on the car and was sad to see it go.

“There was only one reason I would part with the 991 and that was to be offered the new GT3RS 992 model. In August last year, I was duly offered the car by Porsche Centre Perth. The car was specced up in March and delivered to me at the end of May. None of the photos I'd seen of the car did it justice. In the metal, it is such a beautiful example and getting up close to all the aero on the car takes a while to take in. Options included; Weissach package, front lift, PDLS+, etc. but I have to mention the carbon fibre roll cage that is a work of art!

“I've done 1,300 miles and been totally surprised by how it drives. It's more compliant, rides the bumps better, is more comfortable overall and when my wife tells me she likes it, it must be special. There is absolutely no roll and turn-in is so sharp and precise, and that's on the ‘Normal’ setting. ‘Sport’ and ‘Track’ settings must raise the game even further. In a few weeks I'm off to Zandvoort F1 circuit where I think the car will come into its own. It has moved on so much from my 991, how do Porsche continue to do it?”

Touring and tracking
We recently returned from our 718 Boxster tour of Europe – sorry but the 718 beats a GT3 for motoring off the grid, i.e. the back roads in France, Belgium, Germany, Austria and Italy. Some of the places where we travelled, e.g. the Simplon Pass (roof down) had many road repairs and deviations via even worse surfaces. In addition, the access points to many underground car parks would have tested a GT3 and very likely scraped the front and the wide sides. More of this in the next column, as will be a write-up of the Club’s Silverstone trackday. Yes, the GT3 will be out to play and with Yokohama A052 boots, in part due to a shortage of Cup 2 tyres! Even Michelin could not tell me when supplies would be available despite confirming production to 2026 for my sizes.

Happy GT3ing
