Rusting exhaust clamps
As many of you are no doubt aware Porsche exhausts are not made out of the finest materials, and as such rust soon takes hold especially around the exhaust fixings.

Please be aware that there has been a few incidents in the past with regards to the clamps, which hold the chrome exhaust tips in place. Due to age and their vulnerable position, a number are starting to disintegrate, resulting in, in some cases, the tips actually falling off. It’s an easy job to check and to repair if you find yours loose or badly corroded.

Paul Williams
Paul sent me two photos of his newly acquired Turbo together with the following.

“I am a long term member of PCGB in R23 (Sussex) and have just purchased an Atlas Grey Turbo S with the Tiptronic gearbox. The car was originally owned by the MD of Porsche, so was well looked after and serviced whilst they were the custodian.

Paul Williams’ Atlas Grey Turbo S

“I am still getting used to the Tiptronic gearbox but initial thoughts are that although it’s obviously less economical than the manual it is more relaxing to drive and sufficiently fast enough for me with the benefit of four wheel drive”.

As many of you are aware, the Turbo S was the last incarnation of the 996 turbo. It’s essentially a 996 Turbo with the X50 option, but also included PCCB. A total of 600 coupés and 960 cabriolets were produced worldwide between 2004/5. The X50 option increased power by 30hp and its torque rose from 560 to 620 Nm making it a very rewarding and exciting car to drive.
