I am sitting writing this article (yes, it’s deadline day!) this afternoon on a beautiful sunny spring day, having arrived home after a lovely morning out with members of R23.
24 March breakfast and drive
This morning it was an early start to drive the 48 miles to The Beach Deck in Eastbourne, to meet up with 50 members in 32 cars who had booked with us for our breakfast and drive today. It was a beautiful sunny morning, unlike the last couple of drives we have arranged where the weather has not been kind.

The car park had a great display of cars, all beautifully clean and shiny. As usual, the breakfast was great and we were very well looked after.

All fueled up with coffee and food, we met in the car park to hand out radios and give a quick briefing to all drivers, as we had lots of new members with us today. We then set off in two groups of 12 cars, leaving 10 minutes apart, on our 55-mile journey through some beautiful East Sussex countryside with stunning views across the Weald to one side and the coast to the other. It was not a fast drive as the road surfaces are appalling playing ‘pothole dodgems’ but kept at a comfortable pace.
The drive’s finishing place was Bodium Castle
The finishing place was Bodium Castle, a National Trust property, where we collected all the radios. Some people headed home, while others stayed for a coffee and spent the next couple of hours wandering around the castle and grounds in the sunshine. All in all, it was a lovely way to spend a Sunday morning with like-minded people. Many thanks to Kate and Steve for leading the second group of cars and also the two cars who were the back markers of each group - we could not do these drives without you.

‘Start of season’ dinner
On the previous Thursday evening we had our ‘start of season’ dinner at The Red Deer in Horsham. It was another great evening with lots of chat, laughter, good food and a few drinks. We must mention again, it is lovely to see new members coming to all our events and mixing in.
Lots more events are in the pipeline, so please watch out for the emails for you to book the next event. However, no booking is required for our monthly meeting at The Bolney Stage on the first Tuesday of the month from 7pm.
