As usual a good variety of vehicles attended the Cornerhouse Breakfast Meeting

Myerscough College Motorsport Dept
Report by Kevin Dodd

September's Club night saw a change of venue for R18 members when approximately 30 of us held our Club night at Myerscough Motorsport Collage. It’s several years since our last visit. Here we were treated to warm drinks and biscuits before our tour of the facility. First stop was the motorcycle workshop, where we heard stories of daring do and the successes of the department in a few short years since its establishment, enthusiasm aplenty. Next we sat down in the car workshop for an informal 'lecture' on the fundamentals of data logging and analysis - highly informative and interesting to most and especially the track day fans among us. Simon Moss, the department head, then gave us an overview of the college's work and available courses, not that any of us are looking to go back to school imminently. Apparently they do have at least one student at 61 years, so there is hope! Simon then showed us around some of the vehicle projects in the workshop: a selection of rally cars and Formula Fords in abundance. Before we knew it, the evening was coming to a close and we thanked Simon, the staff and students who had stayed late to make us welcome.

The night following our Myerscough visit many of us ventured to Wray for the last of the summer evening classic/sports car get togethers, a great turn out.

Sunday 15 September Visit to Concorde
Report by Debra Worthington/Keith Hankin

This was the second visit to Concorde in 18 months. The first trip last March was oversubscribed – hence why we arranged a follow up visit. First job was to contact people on the reserve list to offer them a place – four places were taken up. A total of 23 joined us on the day from both R18 and R5.

The day started with an introduction – the tour had changed slightly since last year. This time we spent more time on the aircraft where John, one of the very knowledgeable guides, explained the intricacies of the aircraft while recounting tales of the rich and famous who had flown on Concorde.

We had opted for the 'Technical Tour', which included time in the flight deck and a fully guided tour of the underneath of the aircraft. Whilst underneath the aircraft we were surprised to hear about the developments in the unique shapes making up the fuselage; which smoothed out air flow at supersonic speeds and aided the engines to produce such immense power.

Our tour was followed by a two-course lunch and an opportunity to watch today’s aircraft coming and going.

We hope everyone enjoyed the day and the certificates are framed and on display.
