October Report

R18's news report for October

A good number of R18 members attended Silverstone Classic and enjoyed a varied selection of excellent racing. A full report can be found elsewhere in Porsche Post.

The regular breakfast meeting at The Cornerhouse was packed as usual, with a number of Porsches present not seen before, including Trevor Rowland’s restored 993 Targa.

The Red Rose Run on 11 August this year was restricted to 50 Cars. Again due to the poor weather forecast, and a number of late problems. we had a number of last-minute cancellations. The route started from the new Porsche Centre, Preston where. Cllr David Borrow, Mayor of Preston, flagged cars away. Thanks to the team from Porsche Centre there for providing drinks and pastries before the start and for donating a prize for the furthest travelled which went to Mark Grimwood from R10. The Lady Mayor chose the Porsche she would most like to take home, which went to Margie Howarth and her Cayenne. Thanks also to all the R18 team who had packed the ‘Goody Bags’ and for helping with organisation on the day. Thanks to 9-SApart again for sponsoring the rally plaques, which were much admired. Graham and John Bath and Alan Ridehalgh had organised an interesting route which went from Preston up to Wray for a comfort break before going to Stonyhurst College, Clitheroe where a classic car show had been organised. We were lucky on the route to have avoided soe me localised flooding. Thanks to everyone who donated to the Red Rose Run Charity - Rosemere Cancer Foundation where more than R18 members have had recent treatment. A full report may be found in Lancashire Life or Ribble Valley Live magazines. Other prizes awarded were for the highest combined age of car and passengers which was awarded Norman Stansfield, and to the committee’s favourite car which went to new members Trevor Rowlands with his recently restored Miami Blue 993 Targa.

R18 were again invited by Kirkby Lonsdale to their Car Park Concours at Bridge House Tea Rooms, Wray. As usual for these monthly meetings, there was an excellent turnout, with cars both in the concours, where all entrants judge each other cars on a number of areas, as well as sports and classic cars who attended but didn’t take part. R18 provided a Best Porsche Trophy which was awarded to Keith Lofthouse with his immaculate 944.

We were invited to the Rod Emory presentation on 19 August at Porsche Centre Bolton. Rod gave an entertaining presentation and a number of his creations were on display. Full report elsewhere in Porsche Post.

Again a good number of R18 members attended the Oulton Park Gold Cup over the August Bank Holiday weekend and parked on the Porsche display are organised by R5. A full report can be found elsewhere in Porsche Post.
