Monthly Report

Review of events in 2019

November was a busy month with a trip to Porsche Centre Bolton where Russell Cleves CCM Motorcycle (a Bolton Company) gave is us a talk about the history of the company and the various quality products they are now producing. We also had a presentation by Mike Thompson from PC Bolton about his experiences on going to Barcelona to the launch of the Taycan. We also had a talk from Andrew, a local IFA about the tax advantages for an electric car for company car owners. Our last speaker was Phil Bond from Anderson EV, a company recommended by Porsche, who design and manufacture domestic charging points, and all the alternative models available. Thanks to Steve Webb and his team for inviting us to PC Bolton and for providing an excellent buffet. We look forward to seeing the Taycan in the flesh early in 2020

As is usual in my January report I review the events we have organised for R18 in the previous year. Word count restricts a full description, but here goes:-

We have had speakers at our monthly meetings from Rob Cotton Rallying, Kellocks Solicitors on Motoring Law, Polishing Booth on Valeting, and Blood Bikes. We have visited Myerscough College Motorsport Department and PC Bolton. PC Preston accommodated us well for the Regional Concours and we stared our charity Red Rose Run there to raise funds for Rosemere Cancer Foundation.

We attended car show at Shackletons Garden Centre on Easter Sunday, Gawsworth Hall, Mawdesley, Miller Park, Preston, Lotherton Hall, Witton Castle with R3, Leyland Festival, Silverstone Classic, Donnington Classic and Oulton Park Gold Cup race meetings. We also attended in great numbers the Porsches on the Prom at Llandudno, which unfortunately won’t be running in 2020.

We also had drives and lunches to Westmorland, Settle, Lowther Castle and to Gentleman Jack’s at Halifax, as seen on TV.

We had regular breakfast meetings around the region at The Cornerhouse, Phantom Winger, Chung Ku, Liverpool, Classics at The Mill (at Catherines Hospice) as well as ones at Wray on the early evening of the 3rd Thursday of the month where over 100 cars attend We also attended Kirkby Londsdale MC’s Concours at Wray in the early evening.

We had a number of visits including several to Jasmine Porschalink, Concorde, McLaren showroom with R5, and even Liverpool Cathedral.

Other events attended included visits to Bury Transport Museum, as well as a post Christmas Lunch at San Marco’s. Much Hoole, Preston, in addition Go Karting Night is due to run on 29th November. We have had a number of Friday Night “Chippy Teas” at various locations which have been well supported.

We had a well supported WOTY at Beamish where we met up with R3 members, and we joined R5 in the WOTY to Portmeirion.

These events don’t just happen and I would like to thank all the R18 members and Committee who have organised these in 2019, and for the members that have supported them.
