August News

Augusts report summarises details of the events R18 have attended throughout June.

We have had a lot of meetings over the last month

27 May Mawdesley Classic Car Show
This is a local show on Bank Holiday Monday, near Chorley. This year the field was packed to capacity on a glorious day. With a large variety of cars. Porsche’s were very well represented again There is also model aircraft flying display going on all afternoon and a small traders village.

2 June Cornerhouse Cars & Coffee
This regular breakfast meeting was again packed with a wide range of classic and sports cars.

2 June Supercar Showtime – Houghton Towers
This was a large event with Porsche Centre, Bolton as one of the sponsors. This booked up very quickly and we couldn’t get a R18 presence. We will look out for this event in 2020.

13 June Porsche Centre Preston official opening
We celebrated the official opening of the UK's 42nd Porsche Centre on Preston Docklands. Porsche Cars GB Managing Director, Marcus Eckermann, Bowker Motor Group Chief Executive, Paul Bowker, and Centre Principal, Tom Fox, were joined by more than 500 guests at the opening ceremony with live music by local Singer/Songwriter, James Edgar.

15 June Leyland Festival
We had been invited to put some cars into the Supercar Display. The weather wasn’t great and we only had a few Porsches join in the procession before going onto Worden Park for a static display. Again we can look at this for 2020.

19 June Monthly meeting
Our speaker this month was Michael Booth form The Polishing Booth, Leyland. The room was packed to capacity with over 60 members attending, some who had come along for the first time. Michael, who has been a detailer for many years, not one of the here today, gone tomorrow variety, told us how to wash and prepare a car properly and what polishes etc to use. There was a long and lively Q&A session and everyone took something away from the evening. We hope that this guidance will help in preparation for our regional Pride of Ownership Concours in July.

20 June Classic Car Meet – Wray
This event is always on the 3rd Thursday of the month. You need to be there by 6-6.15pm to be able to park on the very large car park. A very wide variety of sports, classic and vintage cars and bikes attend. An excellent hog roast is available. At around 8.30pm several cars leave and go for an evening run through the local area and even the Trough of Bowland.
