October News Report

August has been another active month for R18 events

We started the month with a trip to M-Sport in Cockernouth where Ford works rally cars and Bentley race cars are prepared. M-Sport is owned by Malcolm Wilson, who himself was a renowned rally driver winning many international events, before concentrating on preparing Fords. We were shown the museum of Ford rally cars before being shown the large preparation area where several Ford rally cars for international events were being prepared alongside 2 works Bentley Continental GT race cars. Thanks to Roy Parker for organising this tour.

The monthly Cornerhouse Breakfast meet was as usual very full and this month we had a large selection of Porsches attending. We are considering moving the Christmas lunch to this venue. More info to be released later, once all the votes have been counted, following my request in my MailChimp Newsletter

On Friday 10th August Alan Ridehalgh organised an evening drive and ‘Chippy Tea’ at Banny’s at Colne. We met at Starbucks at Longridge and drove an interesting route, signified by ‘Tulip Diagrams,’ which may have proved interesting for some navigators. We headed towards the Ribble Valley, before reaching Banny’s, at Colne, where we had an excellent supper. 35 members attended, which is good for a Friday evening event. Thanks to Alan for organising yet another great drive.

The following day it was the Miller Park, Preston, Classic Car show for pre-200 cars. Restrictions had been placed on numbers of cars attending this year as a new organisation were organising it, and they had difficulties with Preston City Council and the insurers. Unless you had go your entry in very early, once the agreed number of entrants were reached, no further entries were received. Lancashire Region had a small presence, but there were other Porsche’s who had entered privately

To finish off a weekend of Car show we visited St Catherine’s Hospice show on the Sunday morning. The turnout was lower than usual as many of the regulars were attending the show at Stonyhurst College, Hurst Green. As it was a pleasant day we moved onto the Stonyhurst show. There was a large turnout of sports and classic cars, including several Porsche, some of which were known to us, other not so. We discussed with the college about holding an event there in 2019 and we will be revisiting to arrange something.

The Thursday evening following the monthly meeting at Garstang Golf Club was the monthly Classic Car Show at Wray, near Kirkby Lonsdale. I found out at the last minute that Kirkby Lonsdale MC were also attending, as their club night and were running car park concours. I posted on the Forum and on Facebook, as there was not enough time for a Mailchimp Newsletter to be prepared and edited before the event As usual there was a prize for best Porsche which was won by Kevin Dodd with his 991GTS. There were a ange of classes and I won ‘Best Exterior, with my 993 and Carol Butterfield won ‘Best Sports Car’ with her Carrera 2.7. The last event of the year will have been held by the time you receive this edition of Porsche Post. The dates for 2019 events should be found on their website.

We will be discussing 2019 events at our monthly meeting on Wednesday 17th October. We will be reviewing what the events we have held in 2018 and looking for suggestions, and volunteers to organise events for 2019. A number of suggestions have already been made, and we will be talking about these on the night.

Congratulations to Kevin Dodd for volunteering to be my ARO,. Kevin will be handling the social media side of the region, as more and more reliance will be made on the website, Forum and Facebook. Possibly we should be considering having webinars of group SKYPE meetings instead of the monthly meeting. Your comments would be appreciated. Many thanks to Mike Trotter for his assistance in the ARO post previously.

For any new members that have joined recently, welcome to Lancashire region. We hope to see you at some of our events. If you want a copy of the latest events calendar please e-mail me at R18@porescheclubgb.com and I will send you one.
