Events News - July and August

Porsche informal get together on 4th July where about 50 Porsche’s met up at Crooklands Hotel near Kendal for. A good number of both PCGB and TIPEC members attended from both Lancashire & Cumbria areas. It turned out to be a glorious evening with plenty of good humoured banter and food.

Lions Charity Grasmere Show took place on 17th June. Two cars from Cumbria attended this show on this occasion.

The Regional Concourse event was again hosted by Porsche Centre Kendal on 1st July. Ten entrants took part, including two visitors. The Regional class covered all models. Stuart Cardwell won with his 968, with Simon Makinson runner up with his 944. And 3rd place, Jeremy Heney in his new 991 Carrera T. This visitor’s class being won by David Staines in his 930 Turbo. Thanks to Porsche Centre Kendal for hosting the event and for donating prizes as well as providing food and drinks and to the judges for their diligent work, and to Peter Bull for co-ordinating the scoring.

The Red Rose Run on the 8th July. 50 cars were entered in this event organised by Lancashire members. This is the main driving event of the year. On the day, 2 cars didn’t make it due to mechanical problems or otherwise, two late entrants were glad to take those places. A full report and pictures can be found on the News section of PCGB R18 Web Page. Pictures taken by official photographer Glynn Ward are linked from there and available to order if you come along to a monthly meeting or contact David Baker direct.

The July monthly meeting was Lancashire meeting’s “Alternative Vehicle Night” There was a varied selection of vehicles from a new Mustang, to Maserati’s Mini, Mercedes, Jaguar and Lotus. There was a Ford Prefect in the car park which we assumed was Albert Walsh’s but it turned out the owner was at another function, and the car was an ex-Police car. Three members didn’t quite understand “Alternative” and they came along with their new 911T’s, who can blame them, as they photographed very well in one corner of the car park!

Thursday night Classic Car Meeting at Bridge House Farm Tea Rooms, the usual 120-150 cars present. The last one of these meeting for 2018 will be on Thursday 20th September.

Silverstone Classic. Around 30 Lancashire members attended the Silverstone Classic Race Meeting on 20th/21st July. David and Judy had problem on the M5 on the way down!! The weekend went extremely well even if we felt numbers attending were generally down on previous years. As usual PCGB had a large presence, and I’m sure a full article will be found elsewhere in Porsche Post. Thanks to the PCGB staff who were kept busy all weekend, providing complimentary hot and cold drinks.

Many R18 attended Oulton Park for the August Bank Holiday Weekend or just Monday when the weather was at its best. An exciting days racing and the comfort of the PCGB Hospitality Marque.
