Drive & Lunch - Kielder

The itinerary is as follows :

  • 10.00am - 10.45am : Meet at Sally’s Warwick Bridge (CA4 8RN) in the morning for a coffee and cake or bacon roll before we head off on our day out.
  • 10.45am : Leave Sally’s and head on the A69 taking the Military Road at Greenhead (B630/B6318) until we get to the Wark turn off (Staggered Crossroads) and head to the B6320 and follow this road to the Pheasant Inn for Sunday lunch.
  • 12.30pm : Sunday lunch at The Pheasant Inn, Shilling Pot, Stannersburn, Hexham NE48 1DD

The good news is the food looks superb and the Sunday roast is less than £12 and the portions are very good. There is also a Specials board for those who don’t want the roast and plenty of choice on the normal menu. Children are also catered for.

They don’t need food pre ordered and will reserve our tables and take orders as the cars arrive.

Distance from Sally’s to The Pheasant Inn is 46 miles and takes about 1hr 15 mins - 1hr 30 mins depending on conditions and driving speed, but the roads should be fairly quiet on a Sunday morning.

  • 2.00pm : Head to the Kielder Visitor Centre which is only 2 miles away (NE48 1BX) for a leg stretch and photo opportunity.
  • 3.00pm : Continue past Kielder Reservoir towards the B6357/B6318, via Newcastleton, Kershopefoot and Penton to Longtown and join the A7 and head back to Carlisle

Distance back to the M6 is 44 miles and will take about 1hr 20 mins - 1hr 40 mins.

Below is a link to the route which is fairly easy to follow and is driving on some excellent roads in beautiful scenery.

I’ve also attached some route pointers with pictures for a couple of the turns and the complete route directions map from google to assist co-drivers J

Can we keep an update on who is wanting to go and look to cut off at 15 cars (upto 30 people) ideally for the Sunday Lunch.
