Tuthill Porsche visit

A report of R24's September visit to Tuthill Porsche's premises in leafy Oxfordshire

In deepest Oxfordshire, down a small leafy lane, you would be forgiven if you did not realise that the ultra-modern premises you come across is the place to go if you are serious about classic Porsche rally car preparation. Tuthill Porsche has an enviable UK and worldwide reputation in this respect, however, if racing a classic 911, then they will also be pleased to look after your every need. They were keen to point out that rally and race car prep is their main business but they are looking to expand this into normal service and repair of all Porsche models together taking one-off commission customer builds.

Initially we were welcomed by Richard Tuthill who now runs the company. He outlined its history, which was started by his father Francis who is still involved in a supporting role. Our Regional members and other PCGB guests were invited to wander round and view all the cars being worked on. We were then taken round the business - you can't underestimate the enthusiasm, dedication and total involvement Richard and his staff have in all things Porsche. At any one time in the exceptionally clean main workshop there can be up to 14 cars being worked on, whilst in the engine/gearbox shop up to eight units were in build. A quick look round the extensive parts department finalised the formal tour of the business.

We were then invited again to wander around whilst Richard answered questions from members about any and all aspects of classic 911 car preparation for competition, taking it from a bare shell right the way through to a complete car. We all expressed our sincere thanks for a great visit to a superb family run facility. They are totally dedicated and knowledgeable people when it comes to classic 911 Porsches.
