It is with great sadness that we need to advise of the passing of John Barnatt, formerly Regional Organiser for R19.
John joined Porsche Club GB in 1993 and remained a member throughout the last 30 years, the below is courtesy of James Mahoney, a close friend of John's.
I’m writing with sad news of the passing of John Barnatt, former R19 RO and current assistant 924 Register Secretary. When I joined PCGB in 2006 John had only just taken over as R19 RO and he was more or less the first PCGB member I met. I went on to become John’s friend and unofficial assistant RO. We organised some great events over the years.
John was Porsche through and through and, for a considerable period, he poured his heart and soul into R19. He will be much missed by the current PCGB members that knew him and also by all the past PCGB members that became his friends and with whom he was very much still in touch. It’s a testament to John that, despite it now being some years since he was R19 RO, a good number of the friends he made via R19, still meet up once a month outside the auspices of PCGB because they want to stay in touch with each other and with John.
As well as having a deep knowledge of all things Porsche, John’s expertise extended to all areas of mechanical and electrical engineering and to the BBQ – where he was without equal. The photos show him wielding the tongs at one of his famous R19 BBQ lunches and at the wheel of the immaculate 944 Turbo Cab he owned for many years, with Pauline at his side.
