Countdown to festive fun at A Porsche Christmas

Family-friendly extravaganza on 3 December at Warwickshire Event Centre

With less than two weeks to go, more star cars, great names and family entertainment have been confirmed for ‘A Porsche Christmas’. Porsche Club GB’s end-of-year extravaganza will take place from 10am on Sunday, 3 December at Warwickshire Event Centre near Royal Leamington Spa, and is set to be a festive celebration that the whole family can enjoy.

The largest Porsche event of the season will include great racing cars from the marque’s past and present. The 962 was a mainstay of the 1980s Group C era, both for the factory team and numerous privateers. It twice won the Le Mans 24 Hours and the World Sportscar Championship, and the car that will be on display at ‘A Porsche Christmas’ is an ex-works example that was raced in the iconic Rothmans livery by German ace Hans Stuck and five-times Le Mans winner Derek Bell.

This same car was also the #18 car on pole at Le Mans in 1987, with Jochen Mass and Bob Wollek and was later the #19 works 962 shared by the Andrettis in the stunning Shell Dunlop livery at Le Mans in 1988. The story is told in breathtaking detail within the award winning Ultimate Works 956 and 962 book sets with copies available for signing at the event.

Also on display will be a Hertz Team JOTA Porsche 963 – Porsche’s latest contender in the top-level Hypercar category in the World Endurance Championship and IMSA series. British squad Hertz Team JOTA has run a 963 in this year’s WEC with drivers António Félix da Costa, Will Stevens and Ye Yifei, scoring a fourth place in the final round of the season in Bahrain.

The spectacular sports-racers will be joined by a specially curated display of 45 road and racing cars spanning Porsche’s 75-year history, from the very early cars to modern, mid-engined models, transaxles, including a very rare 924 Carrera GTS and of course for their 60th anniversary year, multiple 911s with a display to include examples of every Turbo, RS and GT model.

Outside, meanwhile, there will be space for 2,000 Porsches, meaning that it will even be worthwhile taking a trip around the car park!

Back inside, a roster of guest speakers will be taking part in a series of Q&A sessions with motorsport commentator Alan Hyde. The star names include former Formula 1 driver John Watson, sportscar driver and team manager John Fitzpatrick, Le Mans winner Richard Attwood and the multi-talented Mike Wilds. All of which will be taking part in meet and greet autograph sessions along with Porsche Supercup driver Gus Burton and Porsche Club Boxster Cup Champion Jonny Lovell.

One of the UK’s most popular and versatile racing drivers, Mike Wilds, will be signing copies of his book Life on the Wild Side, and author Jon Saltinstall will be giving a talk about Jacky Ickx. Saltinstall has recently published a complete competition history that details every event in which the legendary Belgian appeared. Produced with Ickx’s full co-operation, the book is packed with previously untold stories and anecdotes.

‘Ask the Experts’ sessions with Lockton, Oracle and Pirelli will provide expert advice on Porsche ownership, including what to look out for when buying secondhand, plus investments and depreciation trends.

Visitors can get Christmas shopping wrapped up thanks to an entire hall dedicated to an array of more than 35 trade stands, featuring everything from automotive books and valeting products to Le Mans package holidays, track-day experiences and whisky-tasting gift sets. They also won’t want to miss out on the family-friendly festivities that make ‘A Porsche Christmas’ such a special event for enthusiasts of all ages, including free ‘meet and greet’ sessions with Santa Claus, the Grinch and even a Santa saxophonist.

And that’s not all, because they can get further into the festive spirit with a host of Christmas market stalls and delicious treats. There will be the chance for some friendly intra-family competition on the Pirelli E Simulators, while the main-stage entertainment will include award-winning West End singer Miss Em performing Christmas classics.
