Changes to The Classic at Silverstone

Discounted entry still available using with car club display packages

As announced when ticket sales went live in November 2021, there are a number of significant changes to the way Silverstone are operating The Classic this summer. While the event has traditionally taken place on the last weekend of July, this year it has moved to the August Bank Holiday weekend. The classification of a “classic” has also been changed from “2000” to “1982”, a jump of nearly 20 years. At this present moment, it is not known where any Porsches built after 1 January 1982 will be displayed at the festival. Additionally, the cost to the Club for a “pitch” to provide a marquee and hospitality has also increased this year.

The number of car club packages purchased by Club members is lower than expected for this time of year. For all of these reasons, the Club will not be attending The Classic in an official capacity this summer. This means that unlike recent years, we will not be offering a Club marquee, complimentary teas and coffees or access to the Wellington Straight Grandstand.

Club members can still attend the three-day festival and the Club’s booking codes will still provide access to the car club display packages, which offer a significant discount and provides two entry tickets along with infield parking for your Porsche.

While The Classic is moving to the August Bank Holiday it’s retaining the same tried and tested Friday to Sunday format. The same record-breaking displays of treasured classic cars and an unrivalled line-up of retro races from all of motor racing’s golden eras will be right at the heart of The Classic event, with feverish qualifying sessions followed by a programme of spectacular showdowns across three action-packed days.

New for 2022, there are two-tiers of pricing for display packages. All car clubs have been issued with two unique booking codes relating to the age of the vehicle, based on their tax status, which Silverstone has defined as “Tax Exempt (Pre-1982)” and “Non-Tax Exempt (1982 +).

BOOKING CODES

To be considered tax exempt for the purposes of this event cars must have been built before 1 Jan 1982.

Vehicles will be displayed in different areas of Silverstone, with the classic, “Tax Exempt” cars expected to be located on the “inner track” on the Wellington Straight. We await confirmation regarding the location of an allocated display area for post ’82 registered cars. This will be confirmed after bookings close on 31 May and display spaces are allocated between the attending clubs. Parking for post '82 cars will still be infield, however it will not be in the area over the Wellington Straight bridge.

Tickets must be purchased in advance directly from Silverstone using the link below. Please enter the relevant club code at the start of your booking and note that all ticket orders are handled by Silverstone. Car club packages must be purchased by 31 May 2022. All ticket purchasers will need to create a new account with Silverstone to purchase tickets. A guide to help you with this can be found here.
