Rare 993 Carrera 4S sells for record price

New world record set by specialist online auction platform Collecting Cars

Club partners Collecting Cars has achieved another world record auction result, and further highlighted its status as the premier online marketplace for collectible Porsches.

Delivered new to Puerto Rico in US market specification, the rare Porsche 993 Carrera 4S in question left the factory in vibrant Speed Yellow, equipped with the sought-after Aero Kit, sport seats, engine sound package, and a leather-trimmed dashboard and door panels. The Carrera 4S has the wider body from the 911 Turbo of the era, and this particular car is one of just 1,752 examples built for the US market.

Some 24 years later, this 911 remains completely original, meticulously stored and kept in true ‘time warp’ condition, now showing just 1,126 miles from new. Of course, preventative maintenance is a concern for any car coming out of long-term storage, and in May 2021 this 993 was treated to a major recommissioning in Connecticut, US. As well as the usual consumables, this also included a new fuel pump and relay, new lower valve covers and gaskets, front ABS sensors and brake pad wear sensors, all four rubber brake hoses, and the front suspension struts were also renewed. A fresh set of new Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tyres ensured that the car was ready to enjoy on the road.

As if that wasn’t enough, the car also received a complete exterior and interior clean from famed detailer Larry Kosilla of AMMO. An expert in preservation of factory finishes; Kosilla remarked on the exceptional originality, and documented the work for his YouTube channel.
Having been widely promoted through Collecting Cars’ extensive social channels and digital marketing, and with multiple bidders in competition, this Porsche 993 Carrera 4S finally sold for $270,000 - a new world record for the model variant.

The result represents the latest in a string of world record prices achieved by Collecting Cars, including the highest values for a Porsche 911 Reimagined by Singer (winning bid £800,000), Renault Clio V6 in both Phase 1 (£59,000) and Phase 2 (£52,750) guises, the Audi RS2 Avant (£77,000), and the Land Rover Defender Works V8 70th Anniversary (£146,000). It has also broken the European auction record for the Porsche Carrera GT (£765,500).
