The new Porsche Macan boosts performance and style

Porsche launches the new Macan with increased performance, sharper design and a new cockpit control layout.

The sports car of the compact SUV segment, the Porsche Macan has contributed to broadening the appeal of the German marque to new customers around the globe with 600,000 deliveries worldwide since its premiere in 2014.

The new line-up features Macan, S, and GTS models. As the flagship, the Macan GTS sits at the top of the range. Its 2.9-litre V6 twin-turbo engine now delivers 440 PS (324 kW) – an increase of 60 PS (44 kW) over the prior model. With the responsiveness and power delivery typical of Porsche GTS sports cars, it completes the 0 to 62 mph sprint in 4.3 seconds (when fitted with the Sport Chrono package) and can reach a top speed of 169 mph where permitted. Combined fuel economy is 24.1 - 25.0 mpg (WLTP), equivalent to 265 - 255 g/km CO2.

All models offer significantly more power than the predecessor. The Macan S is now also equipped with a 2.9-litre V6 twin-turbo engine that produces 26 PS (20 kW) more power than before, totalling 380 PS (280 kW). This delivers acceleration from 0-62 mph in 4.6 seconds, and a top speed of 161 mph. Combined fuel economy is 24.1 - 25.4 mpg (WLTP), equivalent to 265 - 251 g/km CO2.

A newly-developed, turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 265 PS (195 kW) is the starting point of the Macan line-up. With a power increase of 20 PS, it can complete the 0-62 mph sprint in 6.2 seconds and can reach a top speed of 144 mph. Combined fuel economy is 26.4 - 28.0 mpg (WLTP), equivalent to 243 - 228 g/km CO2.

All engines are combined with the seven-speed Porsche dual-clutch transmission (PDK) and the Porsche Traction Management (PTM) all-wheel-drive system.

Optimised chassis – new sports air suspension for the GTS

The new Macan continues the model’s reputation of a wide dynamic bandwidth, which balances maximum suspension comfort with agile performance. The acclaimed chassis has been further optimised, so the car responds with greater sensitivity and more directly to the driving style and road conditions. This in turn translates into better feedback to the steering wheel. For this purpose, core elements such as the damper characteristics of the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) have been adapted specifically for this model. It actively and continuously regulates the damping force for each individual wheel. PASM is standard for the S and GTS models and available as an option for the Macan.

The Macan GTS distinguishes itself from the other derivatives with the now-standard sports air suspension, which also lowers the ride height by 10 mm. The dynamic benefits of the new GTS are further honed by the air suspension being 10 per cent stiffer on the front axle and 15 per cent firmer on the rear axle compared with the prior model. The optional GTS Sport package further increases the dynamic potential of the car, with 21-inch GT design wheels with performance tyres, Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus) and the Sport Chrono package.

Sharper design with a sporting emphasis

While the character of the Macan is broadly familiar, several specific design details have been introduced to give added technical definition and boldness to the appearance. The redesigned nose with an inlay in the exterior colour bolsters the car’s stance on the road. On the new GTS, the centre of the nose section as well as other elements are finished in black. At the rear, there is a new and striking diffuser in a distinctive finish. This features a technical 3D structure in its detailing, and the style is also available for the side blades as an option.

In addition, the LED headlights with the Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS) and Sport Design exterior mirrors are now standard on all models. Larger wheels are also fitted as standard: they measure 19 inches diameter for the Macan, 20 in for the Macan S and 21 in for the Macan GTS. A total of seven new wheel designs have also been added to the range.

A palette of 14 colours are available for the new Macan, including the new Papaya Metallic and Gentian Blue Metallic, plus Python Green for the Macan GTS with the GTS Sport package. With its Custom Colour and Colour To Sample options, Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur significantly expands the customer choices available.

New centre console with touch surface

Inside, the new Porsche Macan features a modern and elegant centre console with a new operating concept that uses haptic touch surfaces instead of buttons, to bring clear structure to the cockpit. A new, shorter gear selector lever sits in the centre of the control module. An analogue clock at the top of the dashboard is a further new highlight.

A number of leather upholstery and contrasting seam packages in Gentian Blue, Papaya or Crayon are offered as options and add new colour highlights to the interior. The Macan continues to feature many online functions and services as standard. These can be controlled via the 10.9-inch full HD touch display of the Porsche Communication Management or by means of voice commands. The Macan adopts the new multi-function and GT Sport steering wheels from the 911.

Besides the dynamic benefits and bespoke styling highlights on the exterior, the GTS Sport package available only for the top model contains specific and exclusive equipment for the interior. This includes 18-way powered adjustable sport seats, the Carbon interior package, Race-Tex upholstery with extended leather elements, various items with contrast stitching and GTS lettering in Python Green.
