Limited-edition Boxster marks anniversary

Porsche pays homage to the revolutionary 1993 Boxster concept car

To celebrate a quarter century of continuous production, Porsche has announced a special edition Boxster. The anniversary model, which is limited to 1,250 units, is based on the recently launched 718 GTS 4.0, so benefits from the new and highly acclaimed naturally aspirated six-cylinder boxer engine.

The Boxster 25 years references numerous design features of the original concept unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show in 1993, and features Neodyme paint, a copper-like shimmering brown that creates a contrast to the simple GT Silver Metallic of the original show car. In every anniversary car this unique colour appears on the front apron, side air intakes, lettering and on the two-tone 20-inch alloy wheels.

Other subtle but effective design details include a fuel filler cap featuring Porsche script from the Exclusive Design range, a sports exhaust system with tailpipes finished in high-gloss and a windscreen surround in contrasting black.

In keeping with the style of Grant Larson’s original, the new car is trimmed with a Bordeaux leather interior, complimented by a red or black fabric hood bearing embossed Boxster 25 lettering. An interior package in Aluminium, 14-way electrically adjustable sports seats, door sill trims with more Boxster 25 lettering and a heated GT multifunction steering wheel are also included as standard. Under the skin, other no-cost extras include Porsche Active Suspension Management sports suspension, which is 10 millimetres lower, and Porsche Torque Vectoring with mechanical limited-slip differential.

The slightly detuned 9A2 Evo engine from the 718 GT4, now making 394bhp, will be offered with both manual six-speed and seven-speed PDK transmission. The car will reach a top speed of 182mph with either, and in combination with PDK and the standard Sport Chrono package, sprints from zero to 62mph in just four seconds.

Porsche is offering the Boxster 25 Years in GT Silver Metallic, with Deep Black Metallic and Carrara White Metallic are also available. The car is available to order now and arrives in dealerships from the end of March.
