Final race victory grants Morris second PCGB Championship title

A win in the final race of the PCGB Championship saw reigning title Pete Morris crowned overall champion once more!

A win in the final race of the Fuel Protect Porsche Club Championship with Pirelli saw reigning title Pete Morris crowned overall champion* in his Strasse-run 996 C2.

Morris led the final race after a dream start and used the clear track ahead of him to build up a five second lead by the fourth lap. Race one winner Mark McAleer was able to reel in Morris and drop the gap to just half a second, but even when making his way through backmarkers, Morris left no opportunities for McAleer to pass.

Morris kept his lead to take his sixth win of the season and claim both the Class One and overall titles. “I was second on the grid but wanted to get an early lead, so pushed hard early on, but that first lap was even better than I expected!” said Morris.

“I had a couple of moments with backmarkers but we’ve done enough to take the title – even though Mark made me work very hard in the final laps. I waited so long to take the overall title it’s great to take two consecutively.”

Second place finisher McAleer added: “Pete drove very defensively but very fairly. If I could have got closer to him it sooner I might have been able to do more, but he knows the overtaking paces as well as I do and he made sure I had no clear opportunity. After the season we have had I am delighted with a first and a second today.”
