Cammish on the brink of Porsche Carrera Cup GB glory

Redline Racing driver 74 points ahead of nearest rival Michael Meadows with just four races remaining

The UK’s fastest one-make series comes to the renowned Silverstone National Circuit for rounds 13 &14 of its record-breaking 2015 season with 24 911 GT3 Cup cars taking on the 1.6m circuit. All eyes will be firmly fixed on runaway leader Dan Cammish as he finds himself in a strong position to seal the overall championship crown this weekend.

The Redline Racing driver’s ninth and tenth wins of the season at Knockhill mean he now boasts a 74-point lead over his nearest rival Michael Meadows. The former Formula Ford champion holds an outstanding 83% win rate and his form is such that only former double champion Meadows, Porsche Carrera Cup GB Scholar Josh Webster and former BTCC driver Stephen Jelley can catch him. All three require substantial point swings over the 26-year-old to prevent him from taking the championship at the Northamptonshire track.

Cammish has looked the dominant force all year in his 460 hp rear-engined Porsche and the Leeds-based driver is yet to finish off the podium, more realistically leaving the chasing trio locked in an intriguing battle for second.

Meadows will certainly be one to look out for, having already clinched four Porsche Carrera Cup GB wins at this track. The former double champion reigned supreme with two wins, two poles and two fastest laps at the historic circuit last year. More of the same would do his chances of finishing runner-up no harm.

2015 has seen the introduction of a raft of initiatives including greater links with the wider Porsche Motorsport pyramid, new tyre and testing regulations and the all-new Rookie Class. The latter has thrown up a fascinating battle between Tom Sharp and Dino Zamparelli. The duo are separated by just 18 points in the fight for the £50,000 winner’s prize fund: one of the biggest in UK motorsport. With only four races remaining this season, there’s everything to play for.

After qualifying on Saturday (26 September) at 14.30, round 13 of the Carrera Cup GB will start at 10.15 on Sunday with round 14 later that day at 15.55 (27 September). Live coverage of Sunday’s action will be broadcast on ITV4.
