The fastest one-make racing series in the UK heads to Challenging North Yorkshire track for more action-packed 911 GT3 Cup Car action.
Fierce rivalries are set to continue up and down the field as the revitalised Porsche Carrera Cup GB grid converges on Croft for rounds 7 & 8 of thrilling 460hp 911 GT3 Cup Car action. The challenging 2.1 mile circuit will provide the perfect scene for more breath-taking racing from the 27 identical flat-six rear-engined race cars.
With a raft of initiatives, including a new-for-2015 Rookie Class and three different race categories, the opening three rounds of the fastest one-make UK race series have been packed with edge-of-the-seat drama. All signs are that Croft will be full of even more eye-catching wheel-to-wheel battles.
Watching the capacity grid tackle the demanding track layout with its mix of tight, twisty sections and long straights will certainly be something to savour. The picturesque North Yorkshire venue never fails to test man and machine and so any points picked up will be well-earned.
Looking to add to his impressive tally of four wins already this season and extend his 27 point lead at the top of the Championship standings is Redline Racing’s Dan Cammish. The 26-year-old Yorkshireman already looks like the strong title favourite after handling every challenge thrown at him so far. The former Formula Ford champion has not finished off the podium in 2015, something his nearest rivals will be hoping changes if they are to claw him back in.
Series returnee Stephen Jelley (Team Parker Racing) leads the chasing pack after a string of consistent performances and Porsche Carrera Cup GB Scholar Josh Webster is not far behind in third. The defending champion won both races around the North Yorkshire track last year and will be brimming with confidence heading into the event. The Stowmarket-based driver, who tested there last week, will be looking to start his weekend with a strong qualifying performance.
Just eight points separate the main contenders in the Pro-Am1 class. Jordan Witt who claimed the ‘Driver of the Weekend’ accolade at Oulton Park and Irishman Karl Leonard are in hot pursuit of class leader Ignas Gelzinis. The Lithuanian’s lead currently stands at four points but that could all change.
In the Pro-Am2 category, Iain Dockerill (Asset Advantage Race Team) leads the way after opening up a ten point gap over his closest challenger John McCullagh (Redline Racing). Nerijus Dagilis (Juta Racing) and Graeme Mundy (IN2 Racing) have also shown their ability to lead races. With 20 points separating the top six drivers, it’s all to play for.
After qualifying on Saturday June 27th at 15:05, round seven of the Carrera Cup GB will start at 12:42 on Sunday with round eight later that day at 16:19. Live coverage of Sunday’s action will be broadcast on ITV4.
