Dr Wolfgang Porsche to join Brands Hatch festivities

The Club’s patron, Dr Wolfgang Porsche, has confirmed his plans to attend the Brands Hatch Festival of Porsche on Sunday, 21st September.  His presence adds a further high-profile element to the Club’s 2014 national event, which will also see Derek Bell, MBE, in attendance, along with some of the marque’s most iconic and celebrated race cars.

What promises to be a memorable and highly enjoyable three-day gathering at the Kent circuit is being staged in conjunction with the Club’s motorsport department, MotorSport Vision and, of course, Porsche Cars Great Britain.

Wolfgang Porsche is the youngest son of Dorothea and Ferry Porsche, the latter the acknowledged founder of the Porsche sports-car brand. His grandfather was the brilliant automotive design engineer who shaped the history of the car with his Stuttgart-based automotive design engineering office.

In 1978 he was appointed a member of the supervisory board of Porsche AG, taking over the position of chairman in 2007. He was also appointed chairman of the supervisory board of Porsche Automobil Holding SE at its incorporation in June 2007. In addition, Dr Porsche has been a member of the supervisory board of Volkswagen AG since April 2008. He accepted the Club’s offer of patronage in the summer of 2012, and by doing so followed in the footsteps of his late brother, Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, who was also known as Butzi.

‘Naturally we are all delighted that Dr Wolfgang Porsche will be attending the Brands Hatch Festival of Porsche,’ said Nick Hine, the Club’s chairman and communications director. ‘The Club is very much looking forward to having such an important member of the Porsche family with us over the weekend, and I am sure many members will be excited by the news.

‘We are extremely grateful to Dr Porsche for accepting our invitation and making the journey from Germany. I urge the Club’s membership to turn out in force to show just how strong the Porsche enthusiast community is here in the UK.’
