Is the Porsche 997 market flat?

Is the Porsche market in the doldrums? I have my 997.1 on Autotrader . Its been on a month and its very good example , no issues at all. I have on at £25k and I will take offers . The problem is after a month and 800 views , I haven't received a single enquiry. I have valued with Parkers , which are linked to Motorway and the value is close to the Motorway , Car Wow offers I have received. Saying there is a £5k margin at the dealer , they would sell for around the £23k mark. Trade in was £15k , for that I would rather leave in my garage , being honest. What can you buy for £15k like a 911 absolutely nothing. So is the car game in general flat as a pancake? Is the Porsche market flat? The advert, photos and description are fine . What's the thoughts or experiences of the forum. Am I asking to much for a very tidy 86000 miles C2 57 plate tip Cab ?

I think you're maybe a bit high. I would have said 23-25k retail from a specialist who would prep the car well, sort paint defects, refurb wheels and give a warranty. Private sale would need to be a bit less. Portiacraft have a 2006 cab on with 60k miles for £25k. I get the general feeling things are going a bit flat. Read a few stories of cancelled orders for new Porsches and others. Might be best to hang onto it for a bit if you can.

Thanks Steve for your quick reply. Our minds are aligned being honest , £23k seems fair , I do have an extra set of alloys in with the sale and I had the car down my trusted body shop before I placed on sale , spent a good £500 preparing. I am prepared to leave the advert running , nothing to loose there , drop the price to something more competitive and just see what comes around. Thanks for the advice , funny enough 718 Cayman S, GTS pricies are going up!

In over 50 years of car ownership it seems whatever I have no one wants and whatever I want is always at a premium. I think you are about right on pricing. No point giving these excellent cars away.

I'm confused..

You have your car at £25k but you are saying a dealer, who can offer wrty, finance etc, would sell at c£23k...and you cant see why you have no interest?

I think sub £20k for a private sale is more realistic, which is in line with what's on Autotrader

Thanks for the reply , sub £20K for a well sorted 997 I don't think so. There are cars on AT with 100000 plus miles for that money. The dealer will give you a limited warranty. The law states 6 months , however they can pull away from repair, and it's down to you to chase these costs. I have experienced this from a new vehicle, manufactures franchise. I have reduced to £23500, the car is perfect , if it doesn't sell well I have a car I love to drive in my garage for another year . I just want to experience other offerings from Porsche. I have owned a few together in the past , the wife doesn't approve. Thanks for the comments .

In your favour is that it’s a brilliant colour but Greenman is right - it’s not what you want to hear but it’s too expensive compared to what else is available, 800 views and not a sniff of interest should be a big clue.

A Gen 1 Tiptronic Cab is probably the least desirable 997 as well, but even so there’s another 2007 Cobalt Blue Carrera S Tip Cab with only 46k miles up for £23k from another private seller just the other end of the M62 - and that doesn’t need a pair of expensive rear tyres immediately either.

Thanks for the reply . Personally the mileage isn't an issue for me. I have spoken to guys with 250000 on the clock , used daily. The thing with an 911 is its used , not parked in a garage somewhere. Purchasing priority for me , well serviced and maintained. Tyres , its a personal choice and I would have negotiated this in the deal, however I do agree. The Internet has slated the tip , however with the change of the SW , clockspring its as good as PDK, however not as fast. The PDK has its issues , probably why other German manufacturers are returning to a torque converter. Thanks for your input , the reality is £20k in this market I guess , if I want to sell.

So I have reduced to £21500 , let's see if I receive any interest at this price. Someone will get a very sorted , good example at that price , that's my view anyway . Thanks everyone for your input , obviously it's not what I wanted to hear, but its the reality of the current market.

You may want to cancel your existing AT advert and place it again. A lot of people use the app that allows the history of adverts to be viewed. In your case it shows that you originally advertised the car at £26.5k on 28th March and all the subsequent dates and price reductions you have made.

The current £21.5k asking price should generate some interest, especially as the weather is getting warmer, but some people may be put off (a) with how long the car has been for sale or (b) by how keen (desperate?) you seem to sell the car.

A new advert would wipe that advertising history. GLWTS

My wife mentioned this to me this morning , appearing desperate. I know about the price tracker , but thanks for taking the time to inform me. I will have a look at the AT listing , however I paid £70 for a perpetual listing , not sure if I could start from scratch again without incuring further costs. Thanks

Hi, I need to rebook the advert in 30 days , I can reset the data. Speaking of data , I am confident I am in the correct price bracket now. I was seeing 30 hits per week day and around 100 plus over the weekend. Viewing data now increased to 100 approximately per day and the BH around 275 hits. Still no enquiries though , confident they will come. If they don't come by summer , then it's the market conditions in my opinion. Thanks everyone for the advice , hopefully if I sell , I can reduce what ever I purchase, knowing their margins.

Sold , £20k , they are extremely happy and collecting next weekend , sizable deposit taken. I had quite a bit of interest , however this local guy wanted it and made the offer quickly. I think its a fair price in the current climate, I can drive a hard bargain on my next purcahse , its seems a buyers market. Done with the 911 for now , I will probably return though , they are a great car , however all Porsche vehicles , including their vintage stuff , which I have owned , have inherent DNA and feel, very familiar when driving. Well done for selling . Theres a lot of cars on autotrader i have seen and they’ve been on there since xmas. Some have reduced the prices others are holding firm. Its a bit of a mine field.. the adverts which have said borescope carried out and its all fine are the ones which have gone the quickest!!
