ANNUAL REPORT FOR 2024
We are now into the final month of the year and should take some time to reflect on everything that we have accomplished this year. The 992 Register has been active, especially during the summer months with 9 unique 992 Register events taking place, with a total of 254 members joining us on our journey through 2024, with 72 members attending more than 4 of the 9 events during this year creating a wonderful 992 community.
We started our events on 13th April when we met at OPC Wolverhampton for morning coffee and pastries & then made the short trip to RAF Cosford where we split into groups for the guided tour of their facility. Due to holidays in May, our next adventure was on 7th June with the first drive of the year with the Cotswold Run, meeting in early morning sunshine at the Cotswold Barn for breakfast we headed out for the morning section of the drive through Stow, close to Winchcombe, into Broadway, and arriving at Cornbury House for coffee to give many members the opportunity to meet Clubhouse staff and view the facility. Our afternoon run returned through Oxfordshire and Warwickshire roads to our final destination of the British Motor Museum Gaydon where we had lunch and for a few a guided tour of the exhibits.
Later, on 28th June was the morning visit to Williams F1 museum, most found our guide extremely knowledgeable and interesting, and we were shown and informed of each F1 cars from the late 1980’s to current year models, including of course the Championship winning cars of Nigel Mansell and Damon Hill. The lunch for a few of the members was a local pub, and we were delighted to be able to park our cars at the neighbouring Manor House.
Drive number 2 was the Derbyshire Drive on 16th July with another meeting for a hearty breakfast at Denstone Hall Farm Shop and Café followed by the first leg of the drive along some amazing Derbyshire countryside, occasionally having drying roads, at which time the two Carrera Cabriolets dropped the hoods at every opportunity. Coffee at Chatsworth Farm Shop, saw the conversation expand and perhaps reluctantly we left for our next section again through some impressive scenery to our lunch venue, the Country Kitchen Café near Leek.
With the warmer weather beginning, on the first weekend in August we attended the Beaulieu Supercars weekend where 20 x 992’s took advantage of the unique offer from the Register to display their vehicle as part of the Supercar Display with drivers’ marquee access for the Weekend.
This was followed two weeks later on 14th August with16 x 992 owners having a VIP invitation by Aston Martin to view their New Vantage at their Gaydon facility. A Factory tour of the production process included the Trim department where bespoke interiors highlighted the individual options available. Everyone then drove the New Vantage Coupe around the Warwickshire roads for interesting experiences, and lunch was welcomed by everyone.
Just two days afterwards on 16th August we had the Registers ‘Warwickshire Run’, with 14 Cars and 24 people meeting for Breakfast at Gilks Garage Café Kineton, in readiness for a drive from Gilks to Berryfields for Morning Coffee and Cakes. The 992’s then drove through the countryside villages including Knowle & Dorridge, alongside Packwood House to their Lunch venue, The Piston Club near Stratford upon Avon.
Unfortunately, due to low entries, we took the late decision to postpone our plans for the Shropshire Run on 6th September and hope to hold it during 2025.
The penultimate event was a morning visit of 19 x 992 (Gen 1) cars and 26 guests which took place on Saturday 21st September at the Porsche Centre Reading, where they gave the 992 members a full presentation of the latest 992.2 models, explaining the details surrounding the Hybrid technology and all changes from the current 992’s.
This visit also gave all owners the opportunity to view the first of the new ‘Destination Porsche’ concepts which is currently being rolled-out throughout the network, the New Reading Porsche Centre is an amazing facility with some incredible customer areas.
The final 992 Register event of the 2024 Summer was arranged for 27th – 29th September with our WOTY in the charming Devon countryside. The Register took all 22 rooms of the Commodore Hotel at Instow for an eclectic mix of a pleasant weekend away in the company of like-minded members, with an appreciation of the southwest countryside in autumn, a social occasion and above all tremendous driving.
