Nine cars and twelve 992 Register members met at 8.30 am at Denstone Hall Farm Shop and Café, Denstone, Uttoxeter for breakfast having endured the various journeys from home in some very heavy rain.
Following introductions from several who have been to previous 992 events during the past year to any new attendee, Jeremy the route organiser explained where we would be heading to and transferred the routes map links to various smartphones.
Leaving Denstone Hall Farm Shop at 9.45am, Jeremy led the cars through the continued rain via some amazing Derbyshire countryside, although occasionally during the morning it began to dry, at which time the two Carrera Cabriolets dropped the hoods at every opportunity.
The first part of the days drive consisted of around 52 miles taking almost two hours, which included a couple of stops in order to get some great photos of the cars against the dramatic Peak District landscapes. The morning coffee stop was at Chatsworth Farm Shop and at this point everyone was fortunate to be able to sit outside in some ‘semi-sunshine’ and take in the stunning views over the hills whilst sipping their drinks.
As usual, the conversations over the coffee could have easily continued for longer but time was pressing on and the next part of the drive, an 83-mile section of around three hours beckoned.
The routes created by Jeremy took in a variety of terrains including an almost single-track road through the dampness to avoid a section where the original route was closed. Although there were passing places, the camper vans, and other cars coming in the opposite direction made traversing these areas ‘interesting’ but everyone was extremely careful when negotiating through, and all cars exited unscathed.
Although there were four cars who embarked on an unforced Sat-Nav led deviation, all managed to arrive at the lunch venue, the Country Kitchen Café near Leek just after 3.30pm for their selected and pre-ordered meals.
Of course, by this time, all owners were familiar with each other, and it seemed that everyone thoroughly enjoyed the drive over some dramatic Derbyshire countryside.
After a pleasant lunch, the 992’s all aimed for home, hopefully with memories of another enjoyable social and driving day.
Thanks to all for attending, and to Jeremy and Bridgette for organising the route and the fabulous Food stops.
