This month's news from your 928 Register

45 years of history - then a brand new one comes along
There I am, reading my weekly dose for petrol heads, not PP but Autocar, and a mention is made of a new 928 with one solitary image to give you a clue - and this view was only a postage stamp in size! Was I interested? Interested would be an understatement.

With further research I discovered that a French company, Nardone Automotive, has designed a new 928, not from the ground up, but from an existing 928S4 underneath. It seems that the body has got all new composite (like plastic) panels on each corner, with a sleek new nose and a much revised rear panel, all complimented by a completely new leather and Alcantara interior. Eighteen-inch wheels fill out the arches to suitable effect.

There was mention of the car appearing at Goodwood Festival of Speed just two days later. Too late for me, unfortunately, but just time enough to ask someone to take the attached images. Step forward Steve and Becky from Clubhouse who captured the images for me - grateful thanks to both!

The new Nardone 928, made in France!

The modified S4 engine is now reputed to produce 400bhp, when the standard European V8 spec back in the day was only 320bhp and 0-62 mph in 6.4 seconds from five litres. Not exactly slow except by today’s standards. No acceleration time is quoted for this car but it will be fitted with a six-speed manual gearbox, when the brand new one comes along. Only 45 years in the making.

An interesting treatment of the tail

There is only one more question to ask. What is the new price? Only €480k plus VAT at the applicable rate! Roughly translated with UK car tax the figure is around £500k. The first eight cars should be ready in 2024. Say no more.

15 October Transaxle Workshop Seminar
Remember there are other Porsches with a transaxle apart from the 928? They are of course the 924, 944 and 968 with the same rear mounted gearbox layout. All are stunning to look at, each in their own Porsche family way.

PCGB Register Secretaries are in the process of organising an event open to anybody interested in these cars, especially Register members who would like technical answers from a panel of well known specialists who will be there to answer all the questions.

All models will be on display at The Motorist at Sherburn in Elmet near Leeds on 15 October from 10am. Coffee and teas will be available or you can eat in the restaurant.

Register for tickets when they become available on the Club website by clicking on Events.
