26 April 2025

Transaxle Event at Shuttleworth Collection and Garden

For many of us it will seem a bit early to be thinking about getting the 924 out from under its covers and back on the road but spring will soon be here and I find it’s great to have some dates to look forward too during these darker, colder winter days. With this in mind, 928 Register will be holding an event on Saturday 26 April at the Shuttleworth Collection and Garden near Biggleswade, Bedfordshire.

This private collection was begun by Richard Shuttleworth. Pilot, racing driver, self-taught mechanic and heir to the estate, he rescued old aircraft and vehicles, bringing them back to the estate to restore. After his death in 1940, flying for the RAF, his mother Dorothy continued adding to the collection.

Walking through the six huge hangars, at Shuttleworth, you’ll see how aviation design developed from Edwardian times up to the 1950s. Don’t miss the 1909 Bleriot XI, which, along with all of their aircraft, is still airworthy. It’s the world’s oldest flying aeroplane.

From early 20th century aircraft, cars, buses and motorbikes to steam engines and farm machinery, it’s all there for you to discover. You may also visit the workshop to watch them restoring more treasures.

A wonderful job has been done on the recent restoration of the Swiss Garden. The landscape has been designed to lead the visitor to several viewpoints and vistas and it contains surprises around every corner.

You will be able to travel in convoy from Rugby or Bury St. Edmunds. The convoys will meet up at the venue though you have the option to meet us there if you prefer.

Tickets are £27.50pp. You and a friend or partner can make a day of it as the price of the ticket includes full access to the collection and garden plus a ticket to return within 30 days. Also included is a complimentary hot drink on arrival and a cold buffet lunch.

There will be exclusive display parking on hard standing in front of the hangars so this will offer plenty of photo opportunities and a chance to meet and bond with fellow 928 enthusiasts. The cost of parking is included in the price of the event.

The details for the convoys will be provided to those with tickets nearer the time but in both cases the convoys will leave their starting points at approximately 9:30am for a 60-70 mile drive lasting about 90 minutes.
