WOTY 2024

Weekend Of The Year 2024

21 cars entered this years R15 WOTY based at The Lion Quays Hotel alongside the Llangollen Canal in Shropshire. The start was in Chepstow, although the majority decided to add an additional night away by stopping in the area the previous night. The party set off in three groups led by Alan, Keith (who stepped in at the last minute owing to Geoffs illness) and Nigel. The drive in the morning was up the extremely pretty Wye Valley meandering past such places as Tintern and Symonds Yat. The groups gathered together again at Ludlow Farm Shop for lunch, before setting off for the afternoon drive northwards to Trevor in Shropshire for a fun expedition across the U.K.’s highest and longest aqueduct at Pontcysyllte on a narrow boat. All then returned to our hotel for the weekend to enjoy dinner overlooking the canal.

Saturday had two options for the day. The first led by Alan was to drive into Snowdonia to Snowdon via the Horseshoe Pass and back via Lake Bala. The other option was to take the shorter drive to Ironbridge to the Blists Hill Victorian Town, visiting enroute Wroxeter Roman Town, Attingham Park, Ellesmere Lake and Whittington Castle. The evening was again group dining in the Orangerie at the hotel.

Sunday had still further options, some returned via mid Wales visiting enroute Powys Castle, others did the option that they didn’t do on the previous day and still others went to the Cosford Airshow. A few even started holidays further north!

So WOTY is over for another year, but already planning has started for WOTY25! Surveys for this year have been sent to all participants this year to see if the format being used is correct. Responses so far received broadly say it is, but there have been a few excellent suggestions to make some tweaks. Discussion also took place during the weekend as to where next years venue will be, resulting with enquiries already being made to see if it is economically possible! More on this in the coming weeks, but if it does get your reservations in asap as it is likely to be oversubscribed!
