Following the glorious weather on the Saturday, Sunday's second day running of the Hill Climb dawned overcast, with a sea mist hanging over the North Cornish coast. The mist lifted and the day stayed dry but quite cold. This event is quite unique as it's held on a closed public road and is only in its second year of running. The back drop is a bit special too!
The car clubs showing next to the pits and trade stands had to be on site by 8.30am, so it was going to be a long day as we were also asked to stay until at least 4.30pm. As it turned out we were allowed to leave during the afternoon if needed.
There were at least 100 entrants with most running both days and the cars ranged from road (showing little modifications) to out and out hill climb specials. There were two 911s and one 924 to support. This type of event is great as you can walk around the pits and chat to the owners/drivers about their cars and all the modifications they have undertaken - they are a friendly bunch too.
It's a bit like a local, much smaller GFS! Visitor viewing is the full length of the hill, so you can pick your own vantage point, generally near the chicanes. The one near the end seemed to be where most of the action was. There were one or two incidents over the weekend, otherwise the red mist was not too evident. The event attracted drivers from all parts of the South West and further afield even as far as Kent, Birmingham and Wales.
