This month's news from your Thames Valley Region

Breakfast at The Crown Playhatch
Easter Saturday 30 March and no need for an easter egg search! The Crown’s ‘full English’ arrived complete with two eggs and, of course, the usual delicious ingredients.

Early mist heralded a sunny morning with 28 cars bringing a capacity 50 members to this obviously popular location. Plenty of time both before and after breakfast for chat and closer scrutiny of the cars – this, under the watchful eye of Andy G’s new drone camera.

A distinct reluctance by members to vacate the premises for lunchtime customers was a sure sign of another very successful event. Finally, a chance for the Cabs and Boxsters to get the roof down for the journey home.

Autofarm
‘Autofarm Purely Porsche since 1973’ and will be going strong in another 50 years based on the welcome given to us on our visit. Opened specially for us on Saturday 6 April, this dynamic and vibrant company covers all the bases for the discerning Porsche owner. Routine servicing, that elusive purchase, a sympathetic bespoke rebuild/upgrade, restoration, race and track car preparation and storage all feature in what’s on offer.

Autofarm – just superb

Examples of these options were demonstrated by Director ‘Mikey’ Wastie and members of his team.
Water-cooled, transaxle and air-cooled were all in evidence with many truly outstanding examples of the latter category. Training and development of staff is a priority, and, thanks to Mikey’s infectious enthusiasm and leadership, this customer focused ethic shines through. Our sincere thanks go to Mikey and his team for a very interesting and informative morning and to Jon Whitmore for arranging our visit. A more comprehensive overview of this company is readily available through the main social media sites.

Smash Paintwork
Nico advised us from the start: ‘I love painting!’ A good turnout of 32 cars and 43 members found their way on 13 April to this small but growing company specialising in all aspects of paintwork and body repair.

Complimentary tea and coffee wason hand prior to the first demonstration, which covered plastic welding; a cost-effective solution for damaged bumpers, etc.

Smash dent removal in action

Taking a hammer to a steel panel is not always a good idea but this was the precursor to an explanation of the very effective functions of the ‘Miracle System’ for dent repair.

The process of paint mixing and matching was explained together with examples of final detailing and polishing.

An enlightening event sweetened by the offer of 20% discount for PCGB members - no surprise then that a small queue formed up for quotations at the finish!

Renegade Brewery
Numerous invitations to enjoy a ‘Bluebell Walk’ were in evidence on our route to the brewery on 21 April but our members in 40 cars ignored this and were obviously more focused on the promise of Rosy’s cakes.

Rosy and the Cayman cake dispenser

The Cayman hatch was open with a great selection including a new flavour of chocolate Guinness, trumped again by lemon drizzle, the all-time favourite. Our thanks to Rosy and to members who donated £170 for Thames Valley Air Ambulance.

Time for chat and scrutiny of the cars made for an enjoyable outing.
