15 - 19 May 2025

2025 WOTY #2 May

For those that didn’t have personal ‘launch control’ when it came to the booking of R19’s September 2025 WOTY you’ll be relieved to hear second chances do happen.

We were as pleased as we were disappointed that we just couldn’t meet demand for the September WOTY. So, spurred on by the take-up, Team 19 has now arranged an additional WOTY between the 15-19 May 2025 for those who didn’t make the September grid.

Once again, we’re heading over the sea to the IOM but this time it’s for the Classic and Sports Car Weekend in May. Not that we’ve become obsessed with the IOM at R19, mind. It’s just that it provides a fascinating and not often visited destination with a real motoring spirit.

As a bit of rock somewhere out in the Irish Sea, it’s actually pretty large at over 33 miles long and 13 miles wide: like Capri but 50 times bigger, with more rain and offshore Banks. And petrolheads, of course.

The IOM is not just about Douglas, its capital. You’ll find rugged cliffs, sandy coves, miles of uncrowded beaches and some quite enchanting glens. Of course, the driving can be really fun, too (which is what you’re coming for, right?) interspersed with lovely views to stop and gawp at.

You may hanker for a Fulvio or a Furka or a Majello but you won’t be disappointed. The island can hold its head up high with great scenic drives, superbly sweeping bends and sea views that, on a sunny day, are truly impressive.

You can navigate the TT circuit itself from either direction. You’ve got long, fast sections, mega corners and historic ‘miles markers’ that reverberate down the years of hard TT racing: Bray Hill, Ballacraine, Alpine Cottage, Ramsey Hairpin, The Bungalow, Windy Corner… and so on. There is also the famous Hill Climb along the Sloc Mountain Road which was recently re-surfaced and will be closed for our runs.

And for those that don’t want to practice their racing line, there’s an extensive road network beyond Douglas with very little congestion. Ballaugh Glen Road, Ravensdale, Druidale, Port Erin and the Peel Coastal Road are all essential parts of the island’s driving canon.

You’ll be unsurprised to learn the Classic and Sports Car Weekend attracts many enthusiasts with a dazzling array of marques and models. So, you can mingle with the cars and owners as well as bump into fellow PCGB members from far and wide.

For those that need to stretch their legs beyond the confines of pressing an accelerator pedal you can even spoil a good walk with a round of golf at the hotel we’ve booked.

Last, but not least, there’s also the almost obligatory ‘Pie in the Sky’ at the Victory Café on the Saturday of the event. This veritable Manx institution includes transfers from the hotel. So, rest assured that the other half doesn’t need to stay stone cold sober as you glug down your favourite Chateau Mouton Rothschilds (other wines and beers are available as they say!).

Like the September event, ferry crossings and hotels are limited but we’ve been able to secure a block booking with our friends at Scenic Car Tours once again. As expected, we can only hold the reservation open for a limited period and this time to mid-November, so please don’t delay in putting your deposit down.

So what do you get for your money?
