Few Porsche Independents are on par with…ahem…Parr Porsche but it’s true. Being Thames Valley, we suspect most Nineteeners may not have necessarily ventured into the Crawley Massive but this time it’ll be worth your while to turn up on 19 July at 10am and we expect to be finished by early afternoon.
Started some 40-odd years back, by father and son Ray and Paul Robe in a small unit in Old Coulsdon, Parr has blossomed into one of the UK’s most respected independent Porsche specialists, now housed in an impressive facility in Crawley, West Sussex. From servicing and tuning to restoration and sales, lots of lovely Porsche goodness awaits us at Parr.
A standout feature of the company is their active interest in Porsche Motorsport from their early days. In 1996 they entered a 911 GT2 in the Daytona 24-hours and had the audacity to lead their class by two laps after 16 hours of hard racing, finally settling into an impressive third place overall before Porsche’s legendary reliability waved the white flag, dumping the team into a DNF. Undeterred they went to the inaugural Le Mans Carrera Cup race in 2014, taking on teams from around the world in an epic race and beating them all. So, we suspect that Parr know a thing or two about keeping your car in tip-top condition to handle the cut and thrust of the M4 or M25.
During the tour of their facilities, we’re hoping to see a dyno-test this should be both fun and instructive. More details on that to follow. You’ll also be pleased to hear that this event is free. This event will be popular, so if you book and can’t make it, please let us know so we can offer the slot to others on the inevitable wait-list.
